Chikmagalur has many hill stations, waterfalls, temple towns and wildlife


Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary: Bhadra
Occupying 495 km². of wildlife sanctuary and Project tiger reserve, this region is an important watershed of the Tungabhadra river. The huge reservoir here is the
main water supply to several districts in the rain shadow regions of south Karnataka. The forests here are rich in Bamboo and birds species unique to both the Malabar and Sahyadri ranges.

Kudremukh National Park:Kudremukh

The Kudremukh National Park (latitudinal range 13°01'00" to 13°29'17" N, longitudinal range 75°00'55' to 75°25'00" E) is the largest declared Wildlife Protected Area (600 km²) of a tropical wet evergreen type of forest in the Western Ghats. The Western Ghats is one of the twenty-five hot spots identified for bio-diversity conservation in the
world. Kudremukh National Park comes under the Global Tiger Conservation Priority-I, under the format developed jointly by Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and World Wide Fund-USA.


Ratnagiri Bore:Ratnagiri
is a small hillock in Chikmaaglur town that has been developed into a graden called as Mahatma Gandhi Park. The hillock provides a view of Mullayangiri peak.

Rose Garden:rose

Rose garden is a garden of roses maintained by the Horticultural Department. Many varieties of roses are cultivated there.



If you are the religious types then you can visit the places that are famous for their temples and shrines in the city. One such place is Belavadi. Located 29 km southeast of Chikmagalur town on the Chikmagalur-Javagal road and 10 km north west of Halebidu, Belavadi is famous for Ornate temple of Veeranarayana. Belavadi is also famous for the temple of 'Udbhava Ganapathi'


is one of the major tourist spots in Chikmagalur. This enchanting place is just 100 kms south-west from Chikmagalur. It has an ancient Annapoorneshwari Temple, which has been renovated recently. With the installation of the new image of Adi Shakti, now the temple is called Adi-Shaktyatmaka Shri Annapoorneshwari. The place attracts lots of pilgrims who are provided free boarding and lodging by the temple.


St. Joseph Church :church

the main attraction of this church is the shell shaped portico.


Chennakeshava Temple:Chennakeshava

dates back to 1150 A.D and is built in ancient architectural styles. The temple is situated close to Marle which is about 12 kms from Chikmagalur town.



90 km west of Chikmagalur town is Sringeri situated on the banks of Tunga, a Vedic Peetha established by Sri Adi Shankara, the exponent of the Advaita philosophy in 9th Century A.D. It is famous for Vidyashankara Temple originally constructed by the Hoysalas and later completed by the founders of the Vijayanagar Empire and Sharada temple, an early 20th.



67 km north of Chikmagalur, Amrithapura is known for the Amritheshwara temple built in 1196 A.D by Amriteshwara Dandanayaka, a general of the Hoysala ruler Veera Ballala II. Delicacy of touch, originality of design and fine features have made this temple one of the notable structures of the Hoysala period.


Dattatreya Peetha:Dattatreya-Peetha

Inam Dattatreya Peetha, located on the Baba Budan Giri Hills, is a revered place for Hindus as well as Muslims. The holy place in a cave is a symbol of brotherhood. The cave at Inam Dattatreya Peetha is believed to have sheltered Guru Dattatreya and Hazrat Dada Hayath Mir Khalandar. Inam Dattatreya Peetha can be approached either from Chikmagalur or Kemmangundi. These are situated at a distance of 28 km and 24 km, respectively, from the site of worship.



Kalasa is 92 km southwest of Chikmagalur and situated on the banks of the river Bhadra. It is surrounded by lofty hills of the Western Ghats and is looked upon as one of the pancha-kshetras on the banks of the Bhadra. Close by are the pancha theerthas, the five sacred ponds. On a small hillock here is the Kalaseshwara temple in dedicated to Ishwara, with a Kshetrapala shrine of soap stone in Hoysala style nearby.



38 kms from Hassan & 25Kms from Chikmagalur – is located on the banks of the river Yagachi. It was once capital of the Hoysala empire, today made unforgettable for its exquisite temples. The Shennakeshava temple is one of the finest examples of Hoysala architecture. It took 103 years to complete this architectural marvel.



is 27 kms north-west of Hassan and 17 kms east of Belur & 42Kms from Chikmagalur. The temples of Halebid – like those of Belur – bear mute testimony to the rich, cultural heritage of Karnataka. The Hoysaleswara Temple, dating back to the 21th century, is astounding for its wealth of sculpture details. The walls of the temple are covered with an endless variety of Gods and Goddesses, animals, birds and dancing girls.



51 kms south-east of Hassan & 112 kms from Chikmagalur, Shravanbelagola is one of the most important Jain pilgrim centres .The world’s tallest monolithic statue27 m. high monolith of Lord Bahubali is situated here . Shravanabelegola is 158 kms from Bangalore.



Hebbe Falls:hebbe
Travelling with children then the visit to Hebbe Falls is a must as it cab be a fun day trip for the whole family. To visit Hebbe falls from there you have to take a local jeep as the road is much worse from Kemmanagundi to Hebbe falls and it takes whole of 3hr to complete a return trip.

Manikya Dhara waterfall:Manikya

Manikyadhara Falls is situated near Kemmangundi of Chikmagalur district, Karnataka State and 40 km from the Chickmagalur town.


The Kallathagiri :

waterfalls is situated 10 km from Kemmanagundi of Chikmagalur district, Karnataka State and is also known as Kalahatti or Kalahasti falls. The water cascades from the Chandra Drona Hill from a height of 122 meters amidst fascinating scenery. A Veerabhadra/Shiva temple is built in between the rocks. You will have to cross the waterfall to reach the temple.



Hirekolale pond:Hirekolale

is also a place for day outing. If you like water, then you should visit.



Shanti Falls:Shanti

This is a beautiful waterfall on the way to Z-Point in Kemmangundi.




Dabdabe water falls

Dabdabe Water Falls:

Dabdabe Water Falls is located 24 km away from Chikmagalur. Nestled within a thickly forested area where the sun hardly reaches, Dabdaba Falls is one of the attractive falls in Chikmagalur and is placed perfectly to soothe the visitor's body and mind.
















is a former royal hill station of the Wodeyars and is just 58km from Chikmagalur, which is an interesting place around Chikmagalur. The Karnataka government Department of Horticulture has established a rose garden which is open to the public.

Baba Budan Giri :Baba-Budan-Giri

is one of the most visited tourist places in Chikmagalur. This peak is located just 28 kms north from the town of Chikmagalur



In case you don’t mind climbing the road with loads of curves and turns then Mullayanagiri is a must visit place near Chikmagalur. The highest peak in Karnataka with the temple on top being the state’s highest point.


Gangamoola Hill:Gangamoola

Its just 15kms drive from Chikamagalur & fresh air make you feel very romantic. Go slow as road are very sleepily & roads are not good to drive late in the evening.



Z point is a vantage point at Kemmangundi and can be reached by a steep uphill trek of about 45 minutes from Raj Bhavan and is another place from which to view the sunrise. Shanthi Falls near Kemmangundi can be visited.


Kudremukh & Kudrmukh National Park:Kudremukj

95 km southwest of Chikmagalur town is Kudremukh range, so named because of the unique shape of the Kudremukh peak. Overlooking the Arabian Sea, the broad hills are chained to one another with deep valley & steep precipices. Situated at 1,894.3 meters above sea level, Kudremukh is rich in iron ore deposits.
