About Chikmagalur

Chikmagalur the quaint and peaceful town in south-western part of Karnataka is immersed in legends and one such legend is that the city was given as a dowry to the younger daughter of the legendary figure Rukmangada -- the chief of Sakrepatna. The ancient inscriptions available in Chikmagalur point out the names of Kiriya- Magalu and Priya Magalu. The city was initially called Kadur district till 1947 then its name was changed to Chikkmagaluru then again the city went under a name change to its present name that is Chikmagaluru.

Famous for its coffee plantations and referred to as the land of coffee -- Chikmagalur is a small picturesque town in the south western part of the Indian state of Karnataka. Snuggled in the Baba Budan hills, Chikmagalur, initially known as Chikkamagaluru, is full of charming surprises with lush green hills, valleys, gushing waterfalls, clear streams and aromatic coffee blossoms. The town literally means the town of the younger daughter in the native Kannada language.

A trekker’s delight and a wildlife enthusiast’s paradise, Chikmagalur is just 250km from Bangalore. And with numerous shrines sprinkled around the town, Chikmagalur is a pilgrimage destination as well.

So travel to Chikmagalur and get wooed by its various moods through different seasons.
